The Pillar of Lot’s Wife
As we drive along the calm, salty sea, we meet not only scenery but the stories of Genesis. When the angels urged Lot and his family to flee the burning city, they gave one condition: “Do not look back.”
But Lot’s wife — whom tradition calls Irit — could not detach herself. Perhaps curiosity, perhaps the simple human struggle to let go of home and memory. She turned her head, and in that instant became a pillar of salt, watching eternally over the quiet sea.
To this day, looking toward Mount Sodom, one can see a lone upright figure — a reminder that sometimes in life we must know how to let go, and only look forward.
Masada
We continue south to Masada, the desert fortress that became a symbol of the human spirit. A cable car lifts us to the plateau, where the story of the Jewish rebels unfolds.

How do we get to the top of Masada?
We ascend by cable car to the plateau, so no strenuous climb is required. The walking on top is gentle and rewarding.
Is the Ein Gedi hike difficult?
It’s a gentle walk of about 90 minutes among pools and waterfalls, suitable for most travelers. Good walking shoes and water are recommended.
What should I bring for the Dead Sea?
A swimsuit, towel, flip-flops and sun protection. Avoid shaving beforehand, and don’t get the salty water in your eyes — floating is effortless and unforgettable.
